COMMUNIC – 20 Years of Progressive Power and Metal Mastery
Since the band’s formation as a sideproject in 2003/04, and their debute album released on Nuclear Blast in 2005, Communic has now existed for over 20 years. Untill mid 2026, the band consisted of the same three members.
Norwegian metal band COMMUNIC has been pushing the boundaries of heavy music, blending elements of progressive, power, thrash, doom, and groovy metal. Known for their emotional depth, technical prowess, and rich, multifaceted sound, COMMUNIC has built a reputation for delivering quality metal that defies easy categorization. Catchy vocal melodies, intricate bass and guitar lines, and powerful rhythms collide in a sound influenced by the 80s and 90s metal scene, yet with a unique edge that sets the band apart.
Founded by vocalist/guitarist Oddleif Stensland and drummer Tor Atle Andersen, both formerly of SCARIOT, COMMUNIC’s lineup was solidified with bassist Erik Mortensen. Over the years, they’ve released critically acclaimed albums like Conspiracy in Mind (2005), Waves of Visual Decay (2006), Payment of Existence (2008), The Bottom Deep (2011) Where Echoes Gather (2017) and Hiding from the World (2020), each showcasing the band’s ability to evolve while staying true to their core sound.
COMMUNIC's music is known for its progressive approach, with songs that are moody, melodic, and at times aggressive, reflecting the diverse influences of the band members. Their albums have garnered widespread praise, with their debut being voted "Album of the Month" in major metal publications such as Rock Hard and Heavy Oder Was. They’ve toured extensively across Europe and have become festival favorites across the continent.
In 2026, COMMUNIC entered a new chapter following the passing of longtime bassist Erik Mortensen who last the battle with cancer. Michael S. Olsen joined on bass, and the band welcomed Bollie as a second guitarist, expanding the lineup from a trio to a four-piece.
In the fall of 2026, the band is set to take their music on the road with the the 20th anniversary of Waves of Visual Decay, marking this milestone with a special tour in collaboration with Live Wire Concerts. Fans can expect a celebration of the band's impressive legacy, featuring songs that have defined their journey as one of Norway’s most original and enduring metal bands.
With a discography that includes deep, personal reflections and hard-hitting metal anthems, COMMUNIC continues to innovate while honoring their roots. As they look to the future, their 20th anniversary promises to be a highlight in an already storied career.
