Landscapes and Shadows
Starting with Mozarts quartet no 15 in D minor, one of the darker pieces he wrote for string quartet, we present a concert full of contrasts exploring the patinas of the darker keys Dvorak chose to write his Cypresses in - of which we will play a selection.
In the second half, we will be partnering with percussionist Kiyomi Seed for the London Premiere of 'In Praise of Shadows' for string quartet, percussion and marimba by Laura Moody followed by Pavel Haas's quartet no 2 'From the Monkey Mountains' written after his holiday to the mountains in Moravia. With titles Like 'Landscape, The Moon and I and Wild Night' this quartet draws inspiration from nature themes, Moravian folk traditions as well as jazz that was being heard in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century with its; last movement written for string quartet with optional percussion.

A beautiful version of the Ravel - Radio France
I love Brother Tree Sound's earthy approach to Ravel's string quartet here... all performed with a similarly unfettered passion and sense of forward momentum - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ BBC Music Magazine
Beautifully integrated - AUSTA national journal review
Everything matters to us and we feel that by encouraging new ways of listening and collectively interpreting the landscape and language of classical music in the 21st century, our groups dexterity as an ensemble and our open approach to creating projects allows us to move seamlessly from the great pillars of the string quartet repertoire to experimental music with space for some of our own arrangements of folk music along the way.
