Artist bio
Britain’s longest established string quartet, unchanged since inception in 2001. ‘Outstanding’, ‘Highly Engaging’ (The Times) and 'bracingly intelligent' (The Arts Desk).

For 25 years, the Sacconi Quartet has been captivating audiences with its compelling ensemble, consistently communicating with a fresh and imaginative approach. Alongside an unwavering devotion to the traditional repertoire, the quartet is constantly exploring new worlds for the string quartet medium, working with a range of collaborators, from classical to pop musicians, actors to stage directors and scientists to anthropologists.

Three members of the quartet perform on instruments made by the great Simone Sacconi (1895-1973), and the blend of these instruments combined with many years of intimate work and understanding, have led to the quartet’s unique Sacconi Sound.

The Sacconi enjoys a busy international career, performing regularly at major venues across the world and featuring on recordings and radio broadcasts. They are Quartet in Association at the Royal College of Music and Quartet in Residence for the town of Folkestone.

A prolific recording catalogue covers a broad swathe of repertoire from Haydn to present day. The quartet celebrated its 21st anniversary with a release of Beethoven’s Opus 131 alongside Schubert’s Death and the Maiden. Other releases of recent years include premiere recordings of works by Panufnik, Jonathan Dove, Graham Fitkin and John McCabe.
