Artist bio
Hailed as a “Renaissance woman of Austin, Texas” by the New York Times, Patricia Vonne, explores new dimensions of her signature blend of Spanish-style flamenco, bilingual Tex-Mex, Americana, roots rock and “straight-no-chaser” rock ‘n’ roll with her 10th album release”My Heart’s Got a Mind of Its Own.” The title track is a co-write with her long time heroes Chris Isaak and Fort Worth, TX sax man Johnny Reno.
Equal parts velvet and desert dust, songwriter, actress and filmmaker Patricia Vonne continues her celebration of the music and culture of her beloved South Texas. Vonne roots her music in Texas grit but splashes it with Mexican folk, flamenco fire, and rock swagger which she channels into her soulful and electrifying performances.
Vonne continues her trailblazing ride along the borderland where Castillian & Mexican infusions of flamenco and fiery gypsy guitar meets all- American rock 'n' roll. Her song Traeme Paz was featured in her brother Robert Rodriguez’s film Once Upon a Time in Mexico. Vonne is a 3 time Austin Music Award winner and has toured internationally including the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. She has shared the stage with Chris Isaak, Los Lobos, Raul Malo & collaborated with Texas musical heavyweights such as Charlie Sexton, Alejandro Escovedo, Joe Ely, Rosie Flores, Doyle Bramhall & Flaco Jimenez. Vonne toured as a member of Tito and Tarantula the band featured in the Tarantino/Rodriguez film From Dusk Till Dawn.Vonne appeared on the big screen as Dallas (aka Zorro Girl) in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and has appeared in Spy Kids, Desperado and Machete Kills.
Her award winning animation videos shot and edited by Vonne, features her original illustrations for her songs El Marinero y La Sirena which won the Audience Award at Cine Las Americas Film Fest 2015, "Paris Trance" which screened at the Paris Independent Film Festival, Cine Las Americas International Film Festival & won Excellent Animation award at the San Francisco Film Festival. Her latest homage to Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca "Huerta de San Vicente" won Best Animation at Madrid International Film Festival 2017 & Excellent Animation Award at the San Francisco Film Festival 2017. Her debut short film Cold Dark Hollow written, directed, edited by Vonne won Best Women Empowerment Short at Paris International Short Film Festival 2021, Best Thriller at Cannes Shorts Film Festival & Best Actress at Cannes International Film Festival.
Critics Corner:
With a sultry, blood-red vocal style & dramatic songwriting flair, Vonne combines south-of-the-border mariachi sizzle, southwestern mythology, Texas roots-rock & spaghetti western cinematic sweep on this compelling bilingual effort. No Depression
Imagine a young Chrissie Hynde fronting the Mavericks with a little help from Calexico.
- WORD
The San Antonio native's confident, tuff gal vocals, sharp musicianship and smart lyricism don't just promise the total package, they deliver the goods from the get-go. Joe Nick Patoski
Looking like a gypsy Polly Harvey and sounding like Lucinda Williams with Nick Cave’s sense of doom. Mojo
Renaissance woman of Austin, Texas New York Times
This is a talent to melt the coldest heart.
