About this concert
8:00 PM EDT
The music of Stundom is Nordic in its essence: Inspired by the traditional dance music from their ancestors, the trio invites you into their wondrous world, blending folk traditions with classical chamber music and symphonic elements. With a blend of the violin, the cittern and the piano, Emma Kragh-Elmøe, Villads Hoffmann and Julian Svejgaard share a rare musical chemistry and a strong sense for memorable, finely crafted melodies.
Stundom is among the most acclaimed groups within New Nordic folk music in Denmark today. The trio has received widespread praise from both audiences and critics for their seamless fusion of traditional and contemporary expressions. Their latest album, ‘Hvis ikke de er døde, lever de endnu’, received ‘Album of the Year’ at the Danish Music Awards Roots 2025. The same year, the trio received the ‘Carl Prize’ for their compositions, awarded by the Danish Music Publishers’ Association.
In 2026, they were awarded ‘Den Unge Kunstneriske Elite’ (The Young Artistic Elite), a substantial grant from the Danish Arts Foundation. In 2015, Emma Elmøe and Villads Hoffmann formed the duo Elmøe & Hoffmann in Copenhagen as part of a growing Danish folk music scene. Shortly thereafter, they received the ‘New Talent’ award at the Danish Music Awards Folk. In 2017, they were joined by pianist Julian Svejgaard for the recording of their debut album ‘Vandkanten’. The duo became a trio and adopted the name Stundom – an old Nordic word meaning ‘from time to time’ – reflecting their artistic vision: to create new music rooted in the past – made for the future.
Stundom has performed at major festivals such as Roskilde Festival [DK] and Celtic Connections [UK]. They have appeared on BBC Scotland and performed live on BBC Radio 3 as well as DR P2. In 2024, they were invited to the United States by the Danish String Quartet to perform at the Strings Music Festival, bringing their Nordic sound across the Atlantic for the first time.
“A towering standard for new Nordic folk music” Rasmus Steffensen in the Danish national newspaper Information.
“The Danish band immediately cast a spell over me” Christopher Groß - Museek (Germany)
