Artist bio
Formed in Inowrocław, Poland, Quidam is a prominent force in European neo-progressive rock. Originally a blues-rock outfit called Deep River, the band underwent a major artistic evolution in 1995, rebranding as Quidam after a poem by Cyprian Kamil Norwid.
The addition of atmospheric flute arrangements and rich, symphonic textures steered them toward a classic 1970s-inspired progressive rock sound. Their self-titled 1996 debut album (*Quidam*) instantly became a benchmark of Polish art rock, earning them widespread acclaim. They quickly solidified their international reputation with follow-up masterpieces: the emotional *Angels' Dreams* (1998) and the sophisticated *The Time Beneath The Sky* (2002), leading to international touring and a close collaboration with Camel's bassist Colin Bass.
Following the departure of original vocalist Emilia Derkowska in 2003, Bartosz Kossowicz stepped in as lead singer, shifting their style toward a modern, intricate art rock sound. This energy was captured on the heavier-edged *surREvival* (2005), the live *Bez Prądu...Halfplugged* (2006), the critically praised *Alone Together* (2007), and the eclectic *Saiko* (2012).
Despite an extended hiatus when guitarist Maciej Meller joined the renowned progressive rock band Riverside, Quidam's core lineup ultimately reunited, releasing the *Together Again EP*. Today, their timeless blend of emotional melodies and intricate musicianship continues to captivate progressive rock enthusiasts worldwide.
