Portrait Generation

Portrait Generation are a female-fronted Southend-on-Sea alt-rock band blending indie, post-punk and punk influences with driving guitars, energetic rhythms and melodic vocals with lyrics rooted in real life.

Formed around the songwriting partnership of Meg and Harry Groom, the four-piece also features Sam Chapman on drums and Dan Frost on Bass. Their music tackles the uncomfortable, complicated parts of being human - from class and inequality to relationships, addiction, mental health and the pressures of modern life - without losing sight of the energy and intimacy that sits at the heart of their sound.

Following their debut single ‘Roll The Dice’, the band continues to build their sound with singles ‘Grassroots’, ‘Shapeshifter’, ‘Sonic Life’ and ‘Fight Or Flight’ in 2026. They now return with ‘Side Effects’, a four-track EP that moves through inertia, overstimulation, unrequited love and the breakdown of a friendship.

With a growing presence across the South-East grassroots scene, Portrait Generation are building a reputation for energetic live shows and music that balances rawness with melody. ‘Side Effects’ marks the band’s next step as they continue to carve out their place within the UK alternative scene.
