Artist bio
New York-based musician and performer Maya Dae writes dreamy surf rock you can cry to. She is musically influenced by the distorted soundscapes of Melody’s Echo Chamber and the terse, narrative lyricism of Mitski. She loves finding emotional resonance and poignancy in unusual framing devices or unexpected characters, a habit she picked up from her early teenage Mountain Goats addiction.
Her recently-released debut single Replacement explores fossilization as a metaphor for loss and denial, and her upcoming single Furta Sacra takes the perspective of a medieval priest dealing with the theft of his sacred relic (a pretty common issue for Catholic priests at that time) to grapple with religious trauma and anger. She has three more singles planned this year to correspond to the other stages of grief.
