Gloves Biography

GLOVES – A BRIEF HISTORY OF NEARLY ALL OF IT Gloves ‘The Synth Shaman’, bike slut and occasional tennis enthusiast better known to some of us as Yama Indra, holds a list of dance-til-you-drop-dead accolades that would make any “been-there-done-that” globe-trotting journo with a chip on their shoulder envious. As one half of the now defunct Melbourne yacht house & indie-disco darlings Damn Arms, he toured with the likes of The Kills, Cut Copy, Klaxons and The Presets playing over 180 shows in 7 countries and still had time to release the seminal Aussie-touch nu-disco anthem ‘Destination’ which was championed by the likes of French king-pin Alan Braxe (after he approached them to release it on his label Vulture). Alas, their partnership came unstuck after an incident involving a skateboard, a broken guitar and 18 litres of rave juice. The rave juice was consumed at legendary Melbourne institution 3rd Class where he held down a residency for two years whilst also producing music for labels such as Bang Gang 12” and Modular. Something must have mixed right because the man was also hand-picked to play as part of Marc Jacobs 2010 collections both on the catwalk and at the after party… but fashion aside, it was still about the bass-line. In the past two years Gloves has lent his remixing skills to everyone that dared stand near him… basically if you got too close he would remix you on the spot. He once remixed my personality at 5am inside the halls of Sorry Grandma (another Melbourne nightclub – yes I do enjoy nightclubs) and I have passed it off as the original character ever since. The list of others to receive the remix treatment includes Sneaky Sound System, Cut Copy, JET, Van She and Operator Please. As a Dj he has headlined alongside acts such as Midnight Juggernauts, Miami Horror, DIM, M83, The Gossip and Architecture in Helsinki to name but a small few (and some not so small). Between his prolific remixes & staple originals of the last two years, his work has featured on some of the biggest compilations worldwide, featuring on three Ministry Of Sound releases, the last two Bang Gang comps, the latest installment from Germany’s ‘Disco Boys’, One Love’s Mobile Disco & Hed Kandi’s ‘Nu Disco’. So from here I can only advise that you keep your ears to the subs, your legs on the dance-floor and your eyes to the highest slopes and you may see a man riding a bike, balancing an espresso on his head and a synth on his nose travelling at the speed of disco-light.
