HALF LIGHT brings together leading international artists working at the intersection of sound, image and perception. Conceived as a single, continuous experience, the evening unfolds as a unified arc, with each performance forming part of a larger sonic and visual progression, from the tactile world of magnetic tape through immersive audiovisual composition to towering drones and brutalist restraint.
Italian composer Abul Mogard, one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary ambient and electronic music, joins Brazilian visual artist Marja de Sanctis for the A/V premiere of a new work extending the world of Quiet Pieces, Mogard’s critically acclaimed 2025 album. Known for transforming slow-moving electronics, archival material and dense harmonic textures into vast, immersive sound worlds, Mogard brings his singular approach to a new collaboration with de Sanctis. Conceived specifically for the monumental architecture of the Betonhalle, the work brings sound, image, memory and light into a new spatial relationship.
A colossus of world-building sound, Ibero-American artist Rafael Anton Irisarri’s expansive body of work has helped redraw the boundaries between ambient, drone, minimalism and electronic music across two decades. Irisarri presents a solo performance drawn from his latest work, Points of Inaccessibility. Built from bowed guitar, towering harmonics and reverberant drones, the performance explores the paradox of disconnection in an age of constant connectivity, transforming digital-era alienation into an intensely physical sonic experience.
Opening the evening, Mexican sound artist Concepción Huerta represents a new generation of experimental artists emerging from Mexico City’s rich electronic and electroacoustic scene, whose work has rapidly gained international recognition. Recently featured in The Wire for her work with magnetic tape, Huerta brings that medium into a contemporary live practice, using feedback, filtering and layered sonic fragments to reveal tape as a physical instrument: volatile, tactile and alive.

What fans are saying
Abul Mogard delivered a deeply immersive and emotionally rich performance that held the audience in quiet focus throughout. The church setting provided an ideal backdrop—both visually and acoustically—with his modular setup forming a kind of altar at the front. From there, he carefully built up layers of textured sound—at times fragile, at times intense, but always absorbing.
More than just technically accomplished, Mogard’s set felt introspective and deeply felt. He closed with a new piece, In a Studded Procession, whose ethereal tones seemed to echo through the space long after it ended—perfectly in tune with the atmosphere.
It’s rare to hear electronic music that feels this personal, this human. A truly special performance.
