Artist bio
John Hoey is an established vocalist and instrumentalist of trumpet and guitar based in Philadelphia. He focuses on delivering an experience through music and story telling with his own group, and whoever else he may be performing with. Often found performing in the Philadelphia area you can expect to hear music ranging from jazz and pop classics to John's own original songs and compositions. He has performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Cellar Dog, Chris' Jazz Cafe,City Winery, the Kimmel Center, South Jazz Kitchen, the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival, the Rowan University Jazz Festival, and the True Blue Jazz Festival. Over the past decade, Hoey has been involved in many music scenes and projects including Jazz Friends, Ben Kornak’s debut album, and on Rhythms of Light’s album Ribbons of Light. John was chosen to participate in the Boysie-Lowery Living Jazz Residency in Wilmington, Delaware for 2023 and 2025. More recently John is guest lecturing at Harvard University to medical students on the physical and mental challenges artists and musicians face as a result of their craft. John is a board member of the Philly Jazz Voice, a performance and publication series designed to create more opportunities for musicians to play and connect with each other.
