About William Thomson
William Thomson is a Scottish pianist and composer, now living in Lancashire, known for his evocative and emotionally resonant compositions. Working primarily within the contemporary classical and neoclassical genres, William’s music blends delicate textures with expressive melodies—crafted to leave a lasting impression on listeners. His work is characterized by an intimate sound, often achieved through the use of felt piano, which lends a warm and gentle atmosphere to his recordings.
Over the years, William's music has reached wide audiences, having been featured on both national and international radio and television. His compositions have been praised for their cinematic quality and their ability to evoke a deep sense of calm and reflection—often described as both relaxing and emotive.
As a performer, William has appeared at a number of prestigious venues across the UK. Highlights include performances at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, St George’s Church in Glasgow, Manchester Cathedral, St John’s Minster in Preston, and Lancaster Priory. Notably, he was invited as a special guest performer at Lancaster Priory for The Museum of the Moon—a celebrated touring art installation by Luke Jerram that merges art, science, and sound to create a unique immersive experience.
William’s upcoming EP, Inside Out, is set to be released on Heart Dance Records, a label known for its focus on contemporary instrumental and ambient music. The seven-track EP will be unveiled gradually through a series of single releases, culminating in the full release on August 29, 2025. Inside Out represents a deeply personal body of work, exploring themes of introspection, transformation, and emotional clarity.
Drawing inspiration from nature, memory, and human emotion, William's approach to composition is intuitive and personal. He aims to create music that speaks quietly but powerfully, offering listeners space to slow down and connect.
In addition to composing original works, William collaborates with filmmakers, visual artists, and other musicians, contributing to a range of cross-disciplinary projects that extend the reach of his musical voice.
With a growing catalogue of recorded work and performances, William continues to develop his voice as a contemporary composer and pianist.
