Artist bio
DIRTY BLEND is a South Korean contemporary jazz piano trio that debuted in 2015.
Breaking away from the standardized grammar of the traditional Korean jazz scene, they are a unique team known for their bold, intense sound, non-linear harmonies, and solid grooves.
In their debut album, they gained significant critical acclaim by twisting familiar practice pieces like Sonatinas and Hanon—which many learned in childhood piano academies—into impulsive, powerful modern jazz forms. While embracing elements of avant-garde and free jazz that can sometimes feel complex, their music is infused with a playful wit and humor that treats rhythm like a toy.
Distancing themselves from the mainstream applied-music style of jazz, they think outside the box with their own unique sound, building narratives with high musical density.
Sonatinen Lessons (2015): Their 1st full-length studio album, featuring fresh and unconventional takes on Sonatina lessons.
Badman Bossa (2016): Their 2nd album, which solidified the band's identity where order and destruction coexist.
Rendez-Vous (2022): A work showcasing deeper synergy and sophisticated interplay among the members.
The band currently consists of Minseok Choi (piano), Changmin Jun (bass), and Sanghyeon Park (drums).
