Artist bio
Nivi Canela is a queer Dominican sinvergüenza making folk satire and whimsical blues in a sparkly DIY package. Their debut anthology, Ms. Bergenline, is a memoir zine about growing up queer and Caribbean in New Jersey public housing. On their podcast, Book Bops, they write songs about controversial books. Nivi opened at PUNK BLACK FEST New Orleans 2022, headlined LEZ MOON’s Masquerade Soirée 2025, and recently performed at the 2026 West Hollywood Pride Arts Festival. Inspired by Tracy Chapman, Alanis Morissette, Norah Jones, and Billy Joel, Nivi Canela’s music paints clear pictures of the inner world of a whimsical weirdo.
