Martyrion

“The year is 2153 and the world is in ruins. The apocalypse has come over humanity and there are only a few survivors left.”

This is the scenery that Martyrion from Cologne take on. The band exists since 2006; to find their current identity, they went through multiple line-up iterations and style transformations.

Musically, the band has its roots in Melodic Death Metal, but serves various other Metal subgenres in their songs. Besides catchy melodies and powerful solos, the atmosphere of the songs is in the spotlight, which is rounded off by a multifaceted play between fast and slow parts as well as connecting interludes.

The scenario of a post-apocalyptic world is reflected on the one hand in the lyrics: These thematize and criticize the vicious cycle of human misbehavior such as greed and vengefulness, which inevitably result in human extinction. On the other hand, the band also visually brings this scenario to the stage: Thus, the four musicians perform in martial outfits, which give the audience the overall picture and feeling of a post-apocalypse world.

The self-produced first full-length album “Refugium: Exile” was released at the end of 2011. Early 2013 an EP titled “A New Beginning” is released, containing both old and new songs. The second full length album “Our Dystopia” was released in 2016, through Essen-based label “Boersma Records”. In addition, the debut album “Refugium: Exile” was re-recorded and released in 2016.

Until 2018 Martyrion toured the stages throughout many parts of Germany before private reasons and the Covid-19 pandemic caused a hiatus for the band's live performances. New songs were written and in late 2021 the band returned with the well-received new single "Reminiscence" in a reordered line-up, where Marian took over the lead vocals. Since then, Martyrion has resumed performing live and is currently working on a new LP.
