Artist bio
"It is not just a single thing that makes this vocalist stand out from the rest of the jazz vocalists, but the whole presentation...Not only does Loren fill a room with her wondrous voice when singing in English, but she also maintains a high-spirited uniqueness when singing French, Italian, Spanish or Portuguese... Halie Loren is the best." (Live Performance Review / Bill Leikam, All About Jazz)
Halie Loren is an international, award-winning jazz/pop singer/songwriter. She brings a fresh and original perspective to time-honored musical paths, channeling her innate understanding of connectedness across musical boundaries to forge bonds with diverse audiences in North America, Asia, and Europe. Loren has recorded ten albums to-date, which have garnered national and international awards as well as significant critical and chart success along the way, consistently charting at #1 in Billboard/Japan Jazz Charts, iTunes (Canada and Japan) and Amazon Music.
Her debut jazz CD, 2008's “They Oughta Write a Song,” won “best vocal jazz album of the year” at the 2009 Just Plain Folks music awards (the biggest independent music awards in the world at the time), and she was quickly signed in Asia by JVC Kenwood (Victor Entertainment, Japan). In 2011, she signed with Canadian-based Justin Time Records. Loren’s original song “Thirsty” won an Independent Music Awards Vox Pop award for “best jazz song” in 2011. Her 2012 release, “Heart First,” was honored by Japan’s Jazz Critique Magazine as the best vocal jazz album of year and reached No. 1 on the iTunes Canada jazz albums chart. In 2013, “Simply Love” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard Jazz / Japan and entered iTunes Canada as #1 jazz album. 2014’s release, “The Best Collection” also charted as Billboard Japan’s #1 Jazz Album, as did her 2015 release, “Butterfly Blue”. Her release, “From the Wild Sky”, an album of her original songs recorded with Grammy-winning producer Troy Miller in London and New York, was funded through a crowdsource campaign on Kickstarter that raised over $70,000 from fans around the globe. Her video for “Noah”, the 2nd single from that album, won an Emmy in 2019 for Best Music Video as presented by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) Southeast Chapter. Her 2024 album, “Dreams Lost and Found” as well as her 2026 album, “A Kind of Wilderness” releasing September 4th were both recorded in Montreal, Quebec.
Loren’s live performances bring her music to national and international venues of all sizes and scenarios, from shows at SF Jazz and the Lincoln Center to quintet concerts at jazz festivals and performing arts centers to orchestral collaborations in amphitheaters and grand halls (including with jazz orchestras including The Brass Group in Sicily, Italy and JazzPark Big Band in Seoul, Korea – and symphony orchestras including the Britt Fest Orchestra and the Eugene Symphony. In the past several years she has toured consistently across the US and other parts of the world, including Canada, France, UK, Japan, Italy, Egypt, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Egypt, and Haiti. Halie will be touring internationally in support of her newest music releasing in 2026, which was also recorded in Montreal, Canada featuring several fellow Justin Time Records artists. Stay tuned!
"Halie Loren has a sixth sense around lyrics, their compilations, complications, and hidden gems, catchy tunes, and what makes for arresting, unforced melody, with harmonious arrangements that stray just far enough from the status quo to still be interesting. She’s a good songwriter, maybe one of the best, maybe someone who could headline Coachella and accept the next Oscar for the next “Star Is Born.” That good....Her original songs sounded like they were already popular, timeless covers, the ones you want to hear.
