Mit der kubanischen Pianistin Marialy Pacheco ist am 27. November im Rahmen der 33. Jazztage Dortmund eine der profiliertesten Stimmen des zeitgenössischen Latin Jazz im domicil zu erleben. Als erste Frau überhaupt gewann sie 2012 die renommierte Montreux Solo Piano Competition und zählt heute zu den wichtigsten Vertreter:innen des kubanischen Jazz ihrer Generation.
Marialy Pachecos Spiel verbindet rhythmische Präzision, Virtuosität und emotionale Tiefe mit den musikalischen Traditionen Kubas und Lateinamerikas sowie Einflüssen aus Klassik und modernem Jazz. Ob als Solistin, im Duo, mit Trio oder gemeinsam mit Orchestern: Ihre Konzerte zeichnen sich durch enorme Ausdruckskraft, Eleganz und mitreißende Dynamik aus.
Seit ihrem Umzug nach Deutschland - und noch dazu nach Dortmund! - im Jahr 2005 gastierte Pacheco auf zahlreichen internationalen Bühnen und Festivals, darunter das Montreux Jazz Festival, JazzBaltica, das Detroit Jazz Festival, das Rheingau Musik Festival, Birdland New York oder Ronnie Scott’s in London. Dabei arbeitete sie unter anderem mit Künstler:innen wie Omar Sosa, Hamilton de Holanda, Max Mutzke oder Avishai Cohen zusammen.
Im Zentrum des aktuellen Programms steht ihr Album „RELOAD“, ihr bislang persönlichstes und ausgereiftestes Werk. Gemeinsam mit Juan Camillo Villa am Bass und Miguel Altamar am Schlagzeug entsteht ein zeitgenössischer, energiegeladener Trio-Sound, der kubanische Wurzeln, lateinamerikanische Traditionen und klassische Einflüsse auf eindrucksvolle Weise zusammenführt. „RELOAD“ ist zugleich hochvirtuos und unmittelbar zugänglich – ein musikalischer Schmelztiegel voller Emotion, Groove und Lebenserfahrung.

Jazz Pianist and Bösendorfer Artist Marialy Pacheco is the only female pianist among Cuba’s renowned jazz greats such as Roberto Fonseca, Omar Sosa, and Gonzalo Rubalcaba. Winner of the 2012 Montreux Solo Piano Competition, she was the first woman in the award’s 15-year history to receive this honor.
Whether performing jazz with a large orchestra, in intimate duos, or interpreting Bach’s G minor Piano Concerto, Pacheco’s playing is rhythmic, virtuosic, and full of emotion.
Based in Germany, she has performed at leading festivals and venues worldwide, including Montreux Jazz Festival, Jazzbaltica, St. Moritz Art Masters, Piano City Milano, Rheingau Musik Festival, Birdland New York, Ronnie Scott’s London, and major European philharmonics.
Marialy has released 13 Albums, the most significant been:
”DUETS" (2017), an intimate and multifaceted album feat. Hamilton de Holanda, Omar Sosa, Joo Kraus, Rhani Krija, Miguel Zenon and Max Mutzke. "Danzón Cubano" (2019). A live recording with her Trio and the WDR Radio Orchestra, conducted by Gordon Hamilton, “MANOS" (April 2022), a live duo album with Cuban pianist Omar Sosa,“RELOAD" (October 2022), a trio album celebrating the music and culture of Cuba and Latin America featuring Avishai Cohen, Nils Wülker, Karl Perazzo and Rhani Krija. Most recently, she has interpreted Johann Sebastian Bach’s Piano Concerto in G Minor (2025), accompanied by the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn under the baton of Gordon Hamilton.
