Artist bio
Hen Hoose Collective is a nationally recognised, award-winning Scottish organisation advancing gender equality and inclusivity in music. In the past two years alone, Hen Hoose has created over 700 development opportunities, engaging hundreds of women and non-binary artists across Scotland. Our work has been recognised by the John Lennon Foundation and The Big Issue for its impact on gender equality in the sector.

The Collective unites accomplished women and non-binary songwriters, producers, and engineers across multiple genres and career stages.

A central achievement of our last Creative Scotland programme was the Black Bay Studios residency, where the collaborative album The Twelve was written and recorded in just six days. The album was conceived and written by 12 artists, who were placed in rotating groups over the residency, so each group shared ideas and skills across different styles and with different artists. The album was engineered and produced entirely by collective members, with Susan Bear mixing and being mentored to master the record. The Twelve has been critically acclaimed, charted in the Official UK Album Download Chart, received 5-star reviews, and has been featured on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Scotland, Radio X, STV Radio, and a live session on BBC Radio 4 Loose Ends. Its launch included a sold-out live performance at Tramway during Celtic Connections.

Hen Hoose Collective has also generated wider industry collaborations, including partnerships with PRS for Music and synchronisation projects with Universal and Sony Records.
