Artist bio
With an album in 2023 (Rosario de concesiones), multiple tours under their belt and a second studio album on the way, Ensaña is a band capable of stretching the seams of rock to take us into a universe of angular, beautiful and violent music that challenges every rule applicable to the contemporary post-hardcore, slow core and math-rock scenes imaginable. Pandiatonism, overlapping chords in modal polyphony and a reconciliation between dissonance and consonance that emphasises the ambiguity of the tonal centre are resources used by Daniel Ardura (Alado sincera, Sonio), María Sáenz (Zapatotipobota, Come'n Wait) and David Comas (Turmell, Alado sincera, Ghandi rules OK, Quòniams) to articulate their anti-pop vision on amalgam metrics that are concatenated in surprising progressions and narrative scaffolding. Unclassifiable, the trio from Xixón blurs the boundaries between genres and erases the red lines of what is possible within the world of rock —not to mention— in Spanish and Catalan. This abstraction gets amplified by lyrics that challenge us with different voices, transcending figuration and activating our imagination with originality. Their expressiveness denotes poetry and politics, and enjoyment increases with each new listen, thanks to a musical language that does not admit preconceived imperatives. Ensaña are an extraordinary band because they induce an aesthetic experience in which intuition prevails over logic, arousing reactions, feelings and semantic interpretations that are not exclusive, nor easily describable, nor even reducible to words but which stimulate our capacity for abstraction, provoke our subliminal sensitivity and question our reflective maturity.
