Neon Bloom Biography
Toronto-based Neon Bloom is a vibrant fusion of synth-pop and garage rock, known for their explosive energy and genre-blending creativity. Drawing influences from modern electronica, 70s punk, 80s New Wave, and 90s grunge, Neon Bloom's sound has been likened to a fusion of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arcade Fire, Blondie, and Radiohead.
Since forming in 2017, the four-piece—featuring the soulful vocals of Jen Simpson, Simon Chow on guitar and keyboards, Chris Romano on drums, and Fred Yurichuk on bass—has earned a reputation as one of the most electrifying live acts in the Toronto music scene.
Neon Bloom's resilience is epitomized by lead vocalist Jen Simpson, who has overcome significant health challenges, including severe and debilitating epilepsy, to continue pursuing her passion for music.
With extensive touring experience, Neon Bloom has played across Canada, Asia, and Europe, gracing notable stages such as the Spring Scream Festival (Taiwan 2018), Tokyo Beyond Festival (Japan 2022), and major events like North by North East and Canadian Music Week in Toronto.
Neon Bloom's dynamic stage presence has captivated audiences worldwide, with international tours spanning Taiwan, the Czech Republic, and Japan. Notably, they performed at Taiwan's esteemed Spring Scream Festival and leveraged these tours to film music videos in diverse locales, including Prague and Tokyo.
Their debut EP First Fever (2018), produced by Rob Sanzo, introduced the band's dynamic style, followed by the self-produced Still Life (2020), and Tender Lights (2024), further solidifying their distinct sound. In 2023, they released the singles “One Last Time” and the critically acclaimed “Lovers Dance,” which received significant airplay across Canada. Neon Bloom’s music has earned recognition from industry leaders, including multiple selections in Alan Cross’ Weekly Music Picks.
In 2024, Neon Bloom performed at Toronto’s The Edge 102.1 Sugar Beach Concert Series and saw their tracks ‘Tangerine’ and ‘Our Faces’ featured in the Love Club Moms film series, released in February 2025 on television’s W Network. Working with producers Ross Hayes Citrullo, David Plowman, and Brett Zelahi, Neon Bloom recorded and released their first full album Begin Here in 2025.
