The Washboard Union

Fresh off the release of their 5th Studio Album " Westerly" The Washboard Union are at it again. This latest collection marks the anticipated return of the band following the release of their award winning album Everbound. Complete with hit singles , “I Run On Country”, "Gather Round", "Band On Her Tshirt" and more this record represents a timeless, unique, and genuine quality which has made them a staple on country radio since the launch of their very first album. After breaking onto the music scene in 2016, they have proven themselves time and time again as not only distinguished tunesmiths and phenomenal live performers, but also some of the finest gentlemen you’ll likely ever meet.



Racking up a remarkable 9 CCMA Awards including 3 consecutive awards for Group of the Year, they are also the first country band to ever win a Juno Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year. The band has just completed a 7 city tour of Australia to celebrate their signing on with ABC Music Australia and New Zealand.

This summer saw the band appear as themselves in an episode of the hit CBS drama" Tracker" which also licensed both " New Paint" and Neon Needs The Night" from their latest album Westerly for the show. They have appeared to more than a quarter million concert goers at major festivals across the nation including Cavendish Beach, Country Thunder, Big Valley Jamboree, Gone Country and Rockin River MusicFest where they were key mainstage headlining performers who were loved by crowds everywhere.

By now, fans are familiar with the Washboard Union’s origin story, but it bears repeating. Aaron Grain and Duncombe first met at age 13 in Kelowna B.C. when Duncombe’s father began dating Grain’s mother. The pair immediately forged a close bond and a few beers later decided to move to Vancouver to establish a music career. There, they soon encountered David Roberts who at the time happened to be living in a huge 1920’s Tudor mansion overlooking the beautiful beaches of Spanish Banks in Vancouver. It was in that mansion that the bonds of Washboard Union were forged. While Chris and Aaron had already developed their harmonizing skills, the addition of David’s voice opened up even more artistic possibilities. Relying largely on acoustic instrumentation, including Roberts’s historic washboard that gave the band its name, 2012 saw them release their independent self-titled debut, produced by legendary producer Garth Richardson with a track even produced by Bob Ezrin.

Three years later, The Washboard Union signed to Warner Music Canada and the hits, along with the accolades began flowing. It’s an impressive list of awards that attests to the band’s dedication and talent. It’s a story not just about how three guys managed to make great music together and become one of Canada’s most successful and beloved country bands, but that they’ve done it through the genuine friendship they share. Roberts might just say it best when speaking to what it's like being in The Washboard Union, “It's like we’re 10 years old again and every day we get to wake up and build a tree fort, and it’s one we hope to never ever finish”.
