The acclaimed collaboration between Eddi Reader (SCO), and the Alan Kelly Gang (IRE) returns to stages across Ireland this September:     Scotland’s internationally acclaimed and mesmerizing songstress, Eddi Reader, of Fairground Attraction fame joins Ireland’s piano accordion maestro, Alan Kelly and his gang of acclaimed musicians featuring Steph Geremia on flute and vocals, John Douglas (Trashcan Sinatras) & Kris Drever (Lau) on guitars and vocals and Jim Higgins (Christy Moore, The Stunning) on percussion.   Brimming with powerful instrumentals, captivating songs and buoyant harmonies, this is a fluid union of Irish and Scottish traditions from a collective of true masters, friends and long-time collaborators. The Alan Kelly Gang’s innovative perspective and trademark mix of strong dynamics and driving rhythms complements Eddi Reader’s thrilling performance and evocative story telling.   Alan Kelly and Eddi Reader first crossed paths in 2003 when Alan joined Eddi on a tour of Japan, after which he was invited to join her band and has since toured and recorded by Eddi’s side for more than two decades, forging an enduring musical comradery. In 2010 a collaboration between Eddi and the Alan Kelly Gang was proposed as a one-off festival performance but since developed into a headlining act, selling out their annual Irish tour for 14+ consecutive years.     Praised for leaving audiences spellbound, Scotland’s The Living Tradition magazine has described it as ‘an astonishing concert’. Their music will draw even the most fainthearted listener into the passion that they put into the music they play – magical, joyous and uplifting!     ★★★★★ The Irish Times   ★★★★ “Exceptional” R2     ★★★★ Folk Radio UK ★★★★ “This is a party looking for a crowd” Irish Times   “one of the best Irish bands playing today” New York Irish Arts   “Eddi Reader is one of my favorite singers of all time, she has one of the most amazing voices, on a whole other level. No one sounds like her; she has the power and strength of a singer from another age. I like to imagine that, before music was recorded, this is what the great singers sounded like. You don’t have to know anything about music, but something hits you as soon as you hear her sing.” Jools Holland   “one of Scotland’s greatest national treasures” The Scotsman

Eddi grew up in Glasgow and Irvine, Scotland and it was in those towns that she learned to use music as a vehicle for communicating with others through busking and performing at the local folk clubs. In the early 1980s, Eddi travelled around Europe with circus and performance artists before moving to London where she quickly became a sought after session vocalist. She famously harmonized with Annie Lennox touring with the Eurythmics, after her time with successful punk outfit Gang of Four. It was the short-lived but warmly remembered Fairground Attraction that really brought her into the limelight and to the attention of a much wider audience. The single ‘Perfect’ and parent album First of a Million Kisses both topped the British charts.

However, it was her subsequent albums which signalled her increasing ability to assimilate different musical styles and make them all very much her own. Her unerring instinct for fine material, whether self penned, collaborative or a carefully chosen cover version resulted in Mirmama (1992), Eddi Reader (1994), Candyfloss & Medicine (1996), Angels & Electricity (1998), Simple Soul (2001).

Through these years Eddi based herself in London, but in 2001 she decided to move home to Glasgow where she recorded the classic ‘Songs Of Robert Burns’ album released to international acclaim in 2003. Awarded the MBE in 2006 for services to singing, she took her Burns songs on tour all over the world and found connections to the bard everywhere from Kolkata, India to Sydney, Australia. In 2006 she released ‘Peacetime’ on Rough Trade Records featuring the finest traditional players in the United Kingdom and produced by Folk Musician of The Year, John McCusker. Constant touring with her band has created a magical organic chemistry between Eddi and her players. Eddi's brand new studio album ‘Cavalier’ is released worldwide on September 28 2018 by Reveal Records.

Featuring sixteen songs, including live favourites Wonderful, My Favourite Dress, Starlight, Meg O’ The Glen and Maiden’s Lament the new album was recorded and produced in Glasgow, Scotland by Eddi Reader and John Douglas.

Cavalier is a new creative peak in an already prestigious career, just under an hour of new music, incorporating both contemporary and traditional songs.

Eddi is celebrating her 40th year as a live performer in 2018, a career which started in 1978 singing on Scottish country rock tours, then appearing on worldwide festival and concert hall stages with Gang of Four and Fairground Attraction through the eighties and her own successful solo live career which continues to this day.
