Artist bio
Fifty-six years ago, the Childress Family began singing throughout the region of Western Kentucky near their home in Madisonville. This ministry, which is now spanning into its fifth decade and third generation, has been proven to be tried and true and is now more than ever focused on The Family, The Church and America. Their premise of reaching America’s Church Families is first and foremost in this era of the Twenty-first Century.
The Family presently consists of Teresa Childress Lutz along with her husband, Jamey, who sings lead and has been labeled as one of the smoothest voices to come along. Teresa is pianist and alto singer. She adds that well-rounded tone that every artist needs for a great sound.
Carla, the sister of Teresa, plays bass guitar and is the soprano singer. Her pleasing voice rounds out this great sound of the Family.
Marlene, the mother of Teresa and Carla, does a lot of the dialogue for them and has a real knowledge and sincerity of sensitivity in every service atmosphere. Her vocal and writing ability over the years have given them the stronghold in their ministry. Marlene and her husband, Ken, originated their own family ministry after singing in various other groups in their early years. Ken stopped traveling in 2017 due to health reasons and passed away in 2021.
Jamey and Teresa have a daughter, Courtney, who traveled with the family group for over 30 years along with her husband Drew who played guitar with group for the past couple of years. They have had to cease traveling with the family group for the interim. They are very missed by audiences and especially by their family. It is with hope that in the future, they may be able to travel with the Childress Family once again.
The Childress Family has appeared with several artists in the Gospel Music Industry and made multiple appearances at the National Quartet Convention. Some of their favorite places to sing have been within the local churches throughout their region for almost six decades now. This alone, adds to their credibility and reputation of long-standing perseverance and commitment to ministry.
The Childress Family does not take their heritage in Gospel music lightly. They understand the great responsibility of being involved in Gospel ministry. It is The Childress Family’s sincere desire that each of their listeners will be moved to a deeper level of spiritual commitment, as they minister through this medium of Christian Music.
