The Station Biography

From the band's website at thestationmusic.com:

Fueled by the explosive energy of four amazingly creative musicians, The Station has driven their progressive jam-rock sound into the hearts of thousands of fans across the Midwest.

Long time friends, this group of musical artists performing in their eighth year together, have traveled across the United States, and shared bills with such nationally know acts as moe., Umphrey's Mcgee, Karl Denson, The Big Wu, Leftover Salmon, Ekoostik Hookah, Jazz Mandolin Project, Oteil and the Peacemakers, Charlie Hunter, Dark Star Orchestra, and Keller Williams.

The Station takes its audience on a unique musical journey with every show by blending elements of funk, bluegrass, progressive rock, and blues. Well-crafted original songs, seemingly structured improvisational jams and experimental musical mergers leave jaws dropped and ears eager for more. And as the years go by, word of mouth among fans has spread like wildfire: The Station is a band not to be missed.

The Station was named winner of the famed annual "Battle of the Bands" at Cicero's in St. Louis, Missouri in 2002. At the 2005 Summercamp Festival, The Station's 3rd of 4 straight appearances, they shared a stage with members of moe. and Umphrey's Mcgee in an improvisational jam that had fans shouting for more. Just months later the experiment was repeated at Wakarusa with members of Umphrey's, The Station, Groovatron, String Cheese Incident, and Perpetual Groove. The jams kept the capacity crowd dancing until long after sunup.

Studio efforts include "FUMUNDA" (2000), "all that lies between" (2004), and "Playground" (2005). After putting out three studio albums, the band looks forward to releasing their first live album later this year. "There is a magic that happens in the studio that is amazing, but for me anyway, the real magic is what we share on stage, in the moment" says drummer Dave Carter. "but we'd like to give our fans a night that seemed special to us, and take the time to master it and package it. Studio albums take over a year to record and release. A year is a long time of change in our band. We always feel that our best stuff is usually sitting in our more recent pile of discs, and we want to share that with our fans."

Based out of Springfield, Illinois, The Station is Dave Littrell (guitar, sax, vocals), Josh Kerska (bass), Dave Carter (drums/percussion, vocals) and Kevin Lemen (guitar).
