Artist bio
Todd Mertens is a Buffalo, New York-based solo acoustic artist captivating audiences with his versatile voice, masterful fingerstyle guitar, and self-layered harmonies that transform intimate venues into full-band spectacles. A lifelong musician since toddling to his mother's player piano, Mertens learned to play by ear—his first tune? The 1960s classic "Duke of Earl." Influenced by The Beatles and Paul McCartney, he honed his skills in high school, adding guitar.
Over three decades, Mertens has evolved from band frontman—stints with Rusted Truth (folk-rock originals), Blue Ice, and The Revivals (’60s revival rock)—to a sought-after solo act performing decades-spanning hits. Career highlights include jamming with Beatles drummer Pete Best (a proud pinnacle), opening for Little River Band, sharing stages with Skid Row, and collaborating with Jeff Martin of The Tea Party. He's sold out crowds nationwide, guested on local staples AM Buffalo and The Greg Sterlace Show, and built a devoted following through steady gigs at cozy spots like The Humbert House and D’Avolio in East Amherst.
Critics and fans rave: "Awesome... versatile voice and backing harmonies" (toddmertens.com), while his multi-instrumental prowess (acoustic and keys) earns nods as a "multi-faceted musician and songwriter" who "isn’t happy if he’s not playing music." Offstage, the family man indulges in songwriting, films, and woodworking. As of November 2025, Mertens remains Buffalo's go-to for feel-good, harmony-rich nights—check toddmertens.com for his latest songs and shows, where storytelling meets timeless tunes in every strum.
