Bethany Weimers Biography

Armed with a single microphone, Pro Tools, and a vocal booth fashioned from sleeping bags and an upturned couch, London born, Oxford raised alt-folk artist Bethany Weimers, spent nine months as a bit of a hermit, performing, recording and producing her debut album ‘Harpsichord Row’ which she released to widespread critical acclaim in 2012. The result is a beautifully atmospheric collection of songs with both folk and pop appeal, that draw the listener in with hooky melodies belying their darker content, poignantly exploring the human condition whilst remaining uplifting and life affirming. Her background in composition (she has a masters degree from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama) and time spent working as an audio restoration engineer are both evident on record, as is her passion for story-telling and the craft of songwriting. Since the album’s release and with a reputation as a stunning live performer preceding her, Bethany has been steadily gathering a legion of loyal fans across the globe, and has toured both overseas and on home turf. In the UK her tracks have received praise from a number of BBC radio DJs and have been played repeatedly on 6 Music, BBC Local Radio and BBC Introducing, including a live session for her local BBC Introducing show. In May 2013 she was chosen from over 1000 artists to make the shortlist to perform at Truck Festival. She has also performed at the prestigious Towersey Folk Festival, at venues such as O2 Academy Oxford and St George’s Hall Liverpool and on bills including Eliza Carthy, Frank Turner and Sparrow and the Workshop. With her hauntingly powerful voice accompanied by only her acoustic guitar or piano, Bethany currently performs a mesmerising solo set when live. Influences include The Civil Wars, PJ Harvey and Warpaint and fans have likened Bethany to artists such as Amanda Palmer, Marissa Nadler and the iconic Joan Baez. www.bethanyweimers.com // Atmospheric alt-folk goes pop // Debut album 'Harpsichord Row' out now!!
