Generous Thieves Biography
While many Canadian reggae acts fight for recognition at home, Generous Thieves found an unlikely path abroad. In 2023 they sparked a wave of attention in Japan, quickly becoming a fan favourite, leading to successful tours in 2024 and 2025. Their approachable personalities and willingness to personally engage with fans have helped them build a loyal international following, even as they remain under-the-radar in Canada.
Formed in 2021 in Vancouver, the band is led by singer and guitarist Andrew Conroy, joined by Keely Rammage Scott on bass, Ian Perry on drums, and Eric Miller on keys. They have built a strong and growing fanbase in Japan, where they completed a successful tour in 2024, backed by the success of their single Famous In Japan. Their work continues to gain momentum overseas with listeners who value authentic and sincere songwriting.
Generous Thieves have built their fanbase by being genuine and approachable. They respond to messages, share moments from their lives, and don’t take themselves too seriously. Their online presence feels more like a conversation than a performance, which has helped turn casual listeners into loyal fans around the world.
Their latest single, Smile, features lyrics in Japanese for the first time. It is a celebration of their connection with Japanese fans and the joy those relationships continue to bring. Whether performing in an Osaka live house or sharing a behind-the-scenes moment online, Generous Thieves invites you into something real. Their music is meant to make you dance, make you laugh, and stay with you long after the last note.
