About this concert
A Night Of Glass Dan Whitehouse with Gustaf Ljunggren An evening of songs, stories and exceptional musicianship from a reflective duo Dan Whitehouse is an award-winning UK artist living between Tokyo and Wolverhampton; a singer-songwriter, composer, producer, spoken word performer, and community workshop leader renowned for his reflective, genre-defying artistry. Born in the heart of the Black Country, the home of Heavy Metal, his music is rooted in pop and rock sensibilities and embraces the living poetry of spoken word. The result is music that is both deeply emotive and intellectually rich. Dan says, “I write folk songs, but not folk music.” Featured on Folk On Foot, his acclaimed albums, The Glass Age and Voices From The Cones, explored our glass screen-fixated society’s communication challenges, as well as commemorating glassmaking history and community in Stourbridge. Influenced by keeping in contact with his young son living in Japan, songs and stories from both these projects feature in his immersive live show, A Night Of Glass, a simple but hypnotic live experience in which, variously behind a piano, synth or on guitar, Dan takes audiences deep into the heart of glass, with expressively nuanced crystalline vocals, effortlessly mining a wealth of emotions and ideas. Swedish multi-instrumentalist Gustaf Ljunggren, co-producer of The Glass Age and featured artist on Voices From The Cones is flying in from Copenhagen to join Dan for this show. Lunggren also brings music from his own Floreana album. One of northern Europe’s most distinctive instrumentalists, Gustaf was educated as a saxophonist at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen and also plays wind instruments, various keyboards, the piano, pedal steel and strings. A Night Of Glass, is a night for reflection. A heartfelt experience led by Dan’s expressive vocals, songs and stories, alongside Gustaf’s musicality. Dan Whitehouse: “Gorgeous… intriguing” The Guardian | “Subtle and delicate melodies” The Sunday Times Gustaf Ljunggren: “A gentle masterpiece” The Vinyl Anachronist | “Awash with luscious soundscapes of lyrical beauty” At The Barrier

Gustaf Ljunggren is a musician and composer from Sweden.
He is known for being a true multi-instrumentalist, playing guitars, woodwinds, strings, piano and keyboards, mandolin, banjo and more. Gustaf lives in Copenhagen, where he runs a private recording studio which is the base for his composing and recording activities. He grew up south of Stockholm in a musical family, spending his childhood and youth singing in choirs and absorbing the beauty of the inner Stockholm archipelago.

His music often has a contemplative mood, and his richly melodic compositions seem to find ways to give access to hidden or forgotten spaces in the listener’s mind. A good example of Gustaf Ljunggren’s music is “Floreana” (2022) which is a collaboration with the Icelandic musician Skúli Sverrisson.

Gustaf Ljunggren is a widely appreciated music profile in his adapted home country of Denmark, and has been a prolific performer in concert venues and clubs, at festivals and TV shows for years, as well as appearing on hundreds of recordings as a musician, producer or arranger.

Gustaf appears to be drawn to musical settings that feeds off elements of adventure, risk or intimacy. He utilises his bold and seemingly all-encompassing capacities in fields of radically different musical expressions and traditions.

Gustaf Ljunggren collaborates with artists, producers and composers, writers and comedians from across a broad cultural landscape - an artistic practice that reminds of no other’s. He has performed or recorded with Danish cultural icons like CV Jørgensen, Anders Matthesen and Benny Andersen, singers like Eddi Reader, Sofia Karlsson and Robyn as well as occasional performances with Bill Laswell, Daniel Lanois, Nick Lowe, Jenny Wilson, Joe Henry, Mikis Theodorakis and the Danish Radio Girls’ Choir.
