Lady Blackbird Biography
2021 saw the release of Lady Blackbird's critically acclaimed debut Black Acid Soul, with a journeying independence. Her voice is an instantly recognizable sound capable of evoking joy one moment and heartache the next, a musical embrace of genres as varied as classic soul, jazz, and psychedelic rock. It is the hallmark of a visionary voice.
Whilst reflecting influences as varied as Billie Holiday, Gladys Knight, Tina Turner and Chaka Khan, Los Angeles-based Lady Blackbird possesses a style and emotional intensity that is very much her own. Her forthcoming 2nd album Slang Spirituals, puts her sweeping, cinematic vocal power to use on everything from soulful orchestral fanfares to finger-picking folk storytelling to psychedelic atmospheric journeys. An album of originals except for a seven minute psychedelic cover of "When The Game is Played on You," embraces the breadth of her musical freedom.
"This is my journey of becoming," Lady Blackbird explains. "It's me rewriting the book to show the world who I truly am. From being labelled a sinner to finding my acceptance."
