Low Poly Cactus Biography
Low Poly Cactus is a Jazz-Fusion-Funk Band of meme-loving musicians based in Los
Angeles. Inspired by the legacy of fusion supergroups (Return to Forever, Snarky Puppy) and the playful funk of Vulfpeck, Low Poly Cactus focuses on memorable melodies, complex harmonies, and infectious grooves. The debut album, LPC was recorded and filmed live in a 2 day session at Cactus HQ in Glendale, CA. LPC released 11.15.2024 on Birds of Paradise Records, debuting on several coveted editorial playlists: State of Jazz, Fresh Finds and Jazztronica. “Flying Thumbtacks” and other tracks on the album saw radio airplay by KSDS San Diego Jazz 88.3, KUVO Denver 89.3, CJRT JazzFM Toronto 91 and more.
Keyboardist, producer Adam Rochelle (PRNDL) and trumpeter, vocalist Mahealane started writing together during the 2020 pandemic lockdown as a way to escape reality. Mahealane’s showcase performance at SXSW ‘22 featured LPC’s core rhythm section of Adam alongside Johnnie Gilmore (Bass) and Nate Taitano (Drums). The release show for the duo record “San Fernando Laser Tag” (2022) created the final form of LPC adding Michael Vokes (Guitar) and Yuval Sorkin (Sax). The Low Poly Cactus live show is upbeat, eclectic, colorful, energizing, refreshing, and euphoric.
