Sunny Kim creates immersive soundscapes where jazz meets ambient ritual, blending live vocals with electronics and improvisation. Born in South Korea and based in Melbourne, she dissolves borders between traditions—weaving together experimental vocal techniques, indigenous song forms, and real-time processing into music DownBeat Magazine called "deeply spiritual… an otherworldly soundscape." She co-leads Hand to Earth (ARIA-nominated, featuring Yolŋu songkeepers) and leads Ensemble Ochaye, creating intimate, immersive performances that feel like stepping into another dimension. Her sound sits somewhere between Meredith Monk's experimental edge, the spiritual depth of Alice Coltrane, and the ambient textures of Arve Henriksen—but entirely her own. Six albums as a leader.
