About this concert
Our concert theme is the title of a four-movement
suite by the renowned Percy Grainger. It also serves as a double entendre, with the veritable cornucopia of repertoire presented in this program. Featured clarinetists Tom Puwalski and Donna Noyes offer a delightful interplay, with each showcasing their own sense of style in Concertino for Jazz and Legit Clarinets. Also featured is Trittico, written for William Revelli and his University of Michigan Symphony Band, The Eternal Light, which remembers the self-sacrifice of the four U.S. Army chaplains, who, as their ship was sinking off Greenland, gave away their lifejackets on February 3, 1943, and more from Ralph Vaughan Williams, Dana Wilson, and Hoagy Carmichael.
