About this concert
Come for the music. Stay for the flavor. Experience the burn. Legendary bassist and Living Colour member Doug Wimbish brings the WimBash Music Festival to Joey C’s Boathouse in Stratford, CT, on Saturday, October 11, 2025 for day of electrifying musical performances, community celebration and culinary heat. A collaboration between Doug’s long time friend and fellow musician John McCarthy, Teach Kids Music, Rockhouse School of Music and Strong Roots 9 at Gilliard Farms, WimBash Stratford celebrates local CT music and community while fundraising for Teach Kids Music and debuts Doug’s signature Baseline Burn hot sauce line. Founded by John McCarthy, Teach Kids Music helps disadvantaged children that have a passion for music achieve their goal and learn how to play an instrument. The organization provides instruments, instruction and a performance atmosphere where children can find a safe creative atmosphere to help guide them along their musical journey. Playing an instrument has been proven to help children excel academically and once a child gets their first positive musical experience, it ignites a fire and creates a lifelong passion to have music in their life! WimBash Stratford marks a historic collaboration as Doug unveils Bassline Burn, his signature bold new hot sauce created with Strong Roots 9 at Gilliard Farms in Brunswick, Georgia. Bassline Burn is a one-of-a-kind hot sauce collection born from the friendship and creative fire between Wimbish and Matthew & Tia Raiford. Doug—a bass legend known for his innovative techniques and genre-defining sound—has long been a connoisseur of heat (especially when it comes to fish sammiches). His love for flavor even makes its way into his performances, where hot sauce bottles become instruments of sound and spice. The release of Bassline Burn is more than just a flavor moment—it highlights the creative and cultural connection between Doug and Tia Raiford, daughter of acclaimed musician Skip McDonald. Together, they celebrate a legacy that bridges music, food, and family roots. This dynamic collaboration brings the bold energy of the Bassline Burn hot sauce line to life - where rhythm meets flavor, and every note is laced with spice. Together, Doug and Strong Roots 9 have crafted a product line that embodies rhythm, intensity, and soul—much like the music that inspired it. And now, they're bringing that same energy to the stage (and the plate) to Joey C’s Boathouse, known for its community spirit and incredible eats. Purple Luscious Love Biography

Purple Luscious Love specializes in re-creating the energy of the music of Prince.

In 2009, musicians Jaeme Brennan McDonald and Nate Fountain were tasked to mount a live version of Purple Rain for a Prince/Michael Jackson tribute. This event was so successful, that their pair drafted plans to bring the musical energy of Prince to more audiences without resorting to gimmicks. It was their mission to be "hired or sued" by Prince.

Prince tragically died on April 21, 2016,  31 years to the day that he recorded the song "Sometimes It Snows in April". The song tells the tale of Christopher Tracy, one of his alter egos, who was taken from life far too soon.

Jaeme and a few of the musicians from the original 2009 event decided to mount another tribute in 2017 on the anniversary of his passing.

On April 21, 2017, Purple Luscious Love debuted to a packed house in Hartford, CT. The three-plus hour set covered much of the vastness of Prince's catalog, and was a cathartic release for Prince fans from all over the New England region.

PLL would continue to host shows until a brief hiatus from 2020-2023.

Purple Luscious Love now includes over 50 songs from Prince's catalog, each crafted with the utmost care to not compromise his creative vision. PLL shows are a marathon event...as he would have liked it.
