Debi Nova Biography
Debi Nova has spent the last two decades redefining what it means to be an artist from Costa Rica on the world stage. A Grammy nominee and Latin Grammy winner, she was the first Costa Rican to top a Billboard chart with her breakout hit "One Rhythm", a track that soundtracked FIFA 2005 and announced her arrival to a global audience. Since then, Nova has carved out a career at the intersection of pop, soul, R&B, funk, and Latin pulse, a sound as intimate as it is expansive.
Her sixth studio album, Todo Puede Convertirse en Canción, is being hailed as the most honest and daring of her career: A record where vulnerability becomes power and rhythm becomes healing. Its first single has already earned a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Pop/Rock Song, adding to a long list of accolades that includes eight major award nods across the Grammys, Latin Grammys, and Premios Lo Nuestro.
Nova’s journey has taken her to some of the world’s most iconic stages (including the Dalai Lama’s 80th Birthday Celebration, and the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show), and into the studio with legends like Ricky Martin, The Black Eyed Peas, Franco De Vita, Sheila E., and Mark Ronson. Her music has landed in films like Mean Girls, and her presence has lit up shows like So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With the Stars, where she won the Colombian edition in 2016.
Beyond the spotlight, Nova has become a cultural ambassador and activist, lending her voice to gender equality, and social justice. Her anthem "Dale Play" became the soundtrack to Costa Rica’s historic marriage equality victory, while her platform Círculos 3:33 has grown into a movement of over 6,000 women turning passion into action. Recognized as an MTV Chiuku Agent of Change and Costa Rica’s Cultural Ambassador, Nova continues to push boundaries, mentor new generations, and expand the map for Latin music.
With more than 240,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and a new era underway, Debi Nova is still writing the story of a career built on fearless authenticity, global connection, and the transformative power of song.
