About this concert
After nine years of being in business, the #1 Jazz club in Portland (let alone Oregon) is flexing its wings by hosting their own Jazz festival as a way to signal the impact they've had on our city and state within the relatively short span of their existence. And so what better way to kick off their run of shows than with one of the early bands that helped to seed their reputation within the eyes of both Portland and the broader musician community, both nationally and internationally.
So as always, it's going to be a sophisticatedly muscular show that's not unlike the best that's to be found in NYC.

Christopher Brown Biography
As a 20 year veteran between the Marines and Army National Guard, Christopher Brown is on a mission as a bandleader, educator, and multi-instrumentalist to position both Jazz and the musicians who play it as viable change agents in society (starting with his hometown of Portland).
After 13 years of navigating the music scene of NYC/NJ, he was able to garner two degrees (BM/MM) in Jazz studies from Rutgers University, a four year teaching commitment at his alma mater following graduation, and a slew of performances and/or tours with artists that range from Beyonce to Roy Hargrove and Branford Marsalis. In addition to working as a musician, he also spent a few years in front of the camera between commercials for Master Card to the big budget film American Gangster (starring Denzel Washington & Russell Crowe).
Upon his return to Portland, he has become not only the Jazz drums instructor at Portland State University (PSU), but he leads the Jazz division of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony, has co-created a course in the MBA program of PSU called "Business Innovation Through Jazz Improvisation," sits on several boards, and has created one of the most prominent and important Jazz groups to emerge from Portland within the past two decades. Since his return to Portland he has performed with some of the most important Jazz musicians of our time, such as John Patitucci, Cyrus Chestnut, Aaron Goldberg, Chad LB, Gary Bartz, Chuck Israels, Kamasi Washington, Esperanza Spalding, Ben Williams, Randy Brecker and more!
