Raising Daughters

Raising Daughters ain’t for the weak. The country folk duo, led by Josette Axne and Hallie Riddick, interrogates the ever changing role of a daughter. Grounded in sound that is “reminiscent of The Staves and Indigo Girls with lots of harmony and humor” (Laura Shine, Louisville public media), the Daughters strive to bring perspective to conversations of girlhood, coming of age, and legacy. Hallie, a Kentucky native, and Jo, a Coloradoan born and raised, melded their musical backgrounds and histories to create a nostalgic and rooted sound. The Daughters moved to New York City in 2021, and have captured audiences across the boroughs with their striking harmonies and exacting lyrics. Over the years, Hal and Jo have developed a strong friendship, and that trust and bond drives their work today. As they always say, “we may not be blood, but we’re sisters.” The Daughters are currently based in Brooklyn, NY and released their newest single House Song, in summer 2024.
