Wojtek Mazolewski is an outstanding Polish artist known for his pioneering work in contemporary jazz.
As a virtuoso bassist and composer, Mazolewski blends traditions with modern elements, delivering hypnotic and emotionally charged musical experiences. His live performances are renowned for their energy and captivating stage presence, providing unforgettable and innovative experiences, making him a well-known figure in the global jazz community.
Gilles Peterson (BBC RADIO): “Love Wojtek’s jazz lens… a leading light … bringing Polish jazz back into the limelight!”
The prestigious DownBeat magazine recognized his album Polka as one of the top five jazz records of 2014. Similarly, the English portal Kind Of Jazz highlighted the album. Wojtek’s release with WMQ, When Angels Fall, featuring interpretations of Krzysztof Komeda’s compositions, has also received excellent reviews worldwide (including DownBeat and London Jazz News). Attention has also been drawn to Wojtek’s recordings with the Tryp Tych Trio, which he co-creates with Tamar Osborn and Sarathy Korwar.
Wojtek has also collaborated with artists such as Pete Wareham, Tomasz Stańko, Urszula Dudziak, John Zorn, Tim Berne, and Dennis González.
“Jazz, for me, is music that connects opposites – a free spirit and formal rigor, subtle lyricism and sensual wildness, the charisma of performers or composers combined with an euphoric sense of community within the band. WMQ’s music is my response to a restless modern world – I want our sounds to provide listeners with respite, a chance to escape daily madness, and help us all become better people.” – says Mazolewski
