Erin O'Dowd Biography
Erin O’Dowd is an unusually soulful singer-songwriter born in Flowood, Mississippi. She is proud of her Appalachian Roots, with family ties stretching from the foothills of the Blue Ridge in Georgia all the way up to the Mountains in Virginia. Her Pawpaw taught her how to sing old gospel and blues songs from the region, and how to fish, hunt, and grow tomatoes. She grew up barefoot, climbing trees to hide from Alligators in Miami and Tampa, Florida, and spending summers running wild in her ancestral homeland of Shenandoah. At age 11, her preacher family moved her to Tulsa, Oklahoma where she began learning how to play guitar and writing songs in her bedroom. She dropped out of art school at age 17 to begin her career as a singer-songwriter. Now based in Nashville, Erin is collaborating with her tribe and meeting all of her heroes. Her debut album OLD TOWN was made in Tulsa with Oklahoma’s own Travis Linville and John Fullbright. Erin O’Dowd barreled onto the scene in 2018 to the hail of “Best New Music” by American Songwriter and with rave reviews from PopMatters and a slot at BMI’s prestigious Key West Songwriter’s Festival. OLD TOWN weaves together the artist’s personal mythology, a treasure trove of passed down stories and haunted tales of her hometowns past.
She’s opened for Kenny Rogers and Lloyd Maines (The Chicks), and has shared the stage with John Moreland, Band of Horses, Leigh Nash (Sixpence None The Richer) and Robert Earl Keen. In 2019, she was commissioned to put on a Bob Dylan tribute show to promote the legend’s Heaven’s Door Whiskey Distillery & Creative Center.
Erin O’Dowd’s self-penned music is known for its genre-bridging approach to American Roots Music, combining influences of old school soul, classic country, 60’s and 70’s folk, and rock and roll.
She possesses a rare ethereal talent that can quiet loud dive bar, drawing others into her realm rather than trying to fit into theirs. Whether she’s wailing the haint out of you or fearlessly storming an a cappella number, she wows audiences to silence with her fresh approach to Southern storytelling.
She’s currently writing new material, with exciting endorsements and radio play continuing around the world.
