total recall Biography
ToTal ReCall is an Italian post-punk band formed by five highly experienced musicians, each of whom has been playing in various cover and original bands for many years. They came together through their shared passion for Adrian Borland and The Sound—one of the most energetic, disruptive, and innovative bands of the 1980s London post-punk scene. At the same time, The Sound remained misunderstood, underrated, overlooked, and unfortunate.
The band released a handful of LPs, with the first two—Jeopardy and From the Lion’s Mouth—standing as absolute masterpieces. Adrian Borland’s solo career also produced many hidden gems that remained almost entirely unknown.
On April 26, 1999, on a cold English morning at Wimbledon railway station, Adrian Borland tragically took his own life. He had battled his whole life against the demons and struggles caused by his mental illness, which had afflicted him relentlessly since founding his first band, The Outsiders. He later formed The Sound, pursued side projects such as Second Layer (with bassist Graham Bailey), The Witch Trials, and White Rose Transmission, and built a prolific solo career as Adrian Borland and The Citizens.
Through their passion, continuous research on social media, magazines, and music websites, and strong connections with dedicated fans, ToTal ReCall takes you on a journey through the music of this brilliant yet underrated outsider from West London. Their repertoire spans from the adrenaline-fueled, purely post-punk recordings of Jeopardy and Propaganda to the more new wave atmospheres of From the Lion’s Mouth, All Fall Down, Heads and Hearts, and Thunder Up—without forgetting a deep dive into Borland’s solo work.
