DONT MAKE THIS WEIRD Biography
DONT MAKE THIS WEIRD is a Welsh artist who swerves between emotionally raw torch songs and glittering pop bangers. Exploring queer love, lust, and heartbreak through passionate vocals, evocative lyrics, and cinematic soundscapes, their music has been described by CLASH Magazine as the work of a “startling new talent.”
Formerly known as Alekxandr, the artist became DONT MAKE THIS WEIRD with the announcement of their debut album - as though becoming the record itself. The album is an emphatic, shimmering celebration of pop alchemy, transforming heartbreak and trauma into bouncy, galvanising pop. Lead single HEARTBREAK ON ANTIDEPRESSANTS epitomises this duality, pairing lush production with deeply personal lyrics to chart a cathartic journey from the dark night of the soul toward acceptance and hope.
Support has come from Spotify (New Music Friday, GLOW, Fresh Finds Pop), KEXP, and BBC Radio—where The Jo Whiley Show named him “Obsession of the Week.” Critical acclaim has followed from Billboard, i-D, DIY, The Line of Best Fit, Gay Times, Attitude, Euphoria, and Nylon. Pop tastemaker Sam Murphy praised the debut as “the best album by a male pop star this year.”
A multidisciplinary artist, DONT MAKE THIS WEIRD directs all his own visuals, which have been featured by NOWNESS, screened at Vienna Short Film Festival, and nominated for a Berlin Music Video Award.
Previous live shows include 93 Feet East, Heaven, PinUps, Vogue Fabrics, Hackney Showroom, Vault Festival, FOCUS Wales, School Night (North America), NXNE, Toronto Pride, Liverpool Sound City, and Sŵn Festival.
