Lust For Youth Biography
Lust For Youth is a Danish-Swedish electronic duo formed by Hannes Norrvide and later joined by Malthe Fischer, based in Copenhagen. Initially a solo project by Norrvide in the early 2010s, Lust For Youth began with raw, lo-fi production, which Pitchfork described as “scrappy cold wave production that is both intelligent and infectious.” Early releases like Solar Flare, Growing Seeds, and the 2013 single Chasing The Light showcased this cold, minimalist aesthetic, where melodic elements emerged amidst layers of tape hiss and noise.
In the early fall of 2013, the project expanded as Fischer joined, steering Lust For Youth toward a more melodic, synth-driven sound. This shift defined their 2014 album, International, along with tracks like ”Armida”, ”Sister (Club Mix)”, “Running,” and “New Boys”, which introduced a brighter, more polished soundscape. That same year, Loke Rahbek briefly joined, creating a trio that produced International (2014) and Compassion (2016).
Praised for its stadium-sized, emotionally charged melodies, Compassion marked a new level of sonic sophistication for the group. After Rahbek’s departure, Norrvide and Fischer continued as a duo, infusing their music with influences ranging from shoegaze to , crafting an immersive and nostalgic experience.
Their self-titled album, Lust For Youth (2019), was celebrated as “bold and bright,” solidifying their place in modern synth-pop, though recent releases indicate a move beyond that label. In 2022 and 2023, the duo released the singles Accidental Win and Giorgia, continuing their moody, atmospheric approach.
Same year, Lust For Youth’s took the tage at the Sydney Opera House, and in the fall, they were invited by the Swedish embassy to perform in Mexico City as part of the Sounds of
Sweden exhibition, which also included a special concert.
Blue Suzuki (2023), a 6-minute ambient track released under the Posh Isolation label, took their sound in an unexpected direction, leaning into atmospheric, slower-paced textures that reflect an evolving creative direction.
Lust For Youth’s upcoming collaborative album with Croatian Amor, All Worlds, set for release on Sacred Bones Records on March 7, 2025, explores themes of belonging and connection. Drawing inspiration from the Golden Record sent into space, All Worlds brings together diverse influences, symbolizing a convergence of genres and cultures, reflecting the band's journey and evolution.
