Nümonia Biography
Nümonia is a new musical project by video artist Ani Kalemkerian, and musician/ performance artist Jon Asencio. Originally conceived as an experimental film by Kalemkerian (with music by Asencio) while at art school in Montreal in the early 90’s. The unfinished film and soundtrack sat dormant for thirty years until a chance meeting in 2022, when the idea of finishing the project transformed into starting a band based on the film, a stark and minimal sci-fi tale about two inter-dimensional travellers who arrive to save the planet from imminent destruction.
"The Age of Nümonia, their debut LP, released by Le Backstore Records, unspools like a cold war broadcast from a future that never arrived: minimal, mechanical, and rooted in a love for pulp paperbacks, synth decay, and the odd angles of experimental film. A message, decades delayed. The album is full of Kraftwerk’s blueprint by way of pure No Wave, its droll chanting bringing to mind the Flying Lizards, Delta 5, Cristina and Lydia Lunch." post-punk.com
