Rick Grove Biography

Rick Grove’s new record “Ricky” is finally finished, and is being released on Braveheart Records both digitally and physically on vinyl, on September 18th 2025. The Norwegian-American artist, whose real name is Eirik Aas Grove has written an even more heartfelt catalogue of songs with sonics that has changed from a War on Drugs-extravaganza to a more intimate and wonky Big Thief / MkGee love connection type of thing. The performances and the recordings themselves beautifully reflect this as it is all tracked live with Rick’s band in a huge open loft space by the Oslo river. With a good time in mind the band and producer (Mikhael Paskalev) are all the same building on what is now already a 5 year old and strong relationship. Although Rick is unmistakably more front and center than ever, the energy still reflects that music always sounds best meeting air in a true space shared amongst real friends and passionate musos.

There was a time where Ricks was merely known as a guitarslinger for different bands, but the young man has now matured into an integral part of Oslo's indie folk/rock scene and with this new album he effortlessly cements himself as a natural.

At some point in Grove’s relatively new career, he’s described himself as a confused singer-songwriter, hopeful rock’n’roller, and a fully grown indie-head. Which makes sense when listening to the 2023 debut album “Reasons”, written by a mid-twenties guitar player in between bands. The debut came to exist when the still heart aching, soul searchinging and song writing Rick stumbled upon artist and producer Mikhael Paskalev. Over the course of the next three years, the two of them, along his loyal quartet of musicians recorded what would become “Reasons”. Through the debut record the young man matured into an integral part of Oslo's indie folk/rock scene and with this new album he effortlessly cements himself as a natural.

«The riffs, the cheeky twists, and the guitar solos are the kind that make the only handling mechanism to be the widest grin in the drawer. When the concert is over, after what feels like 30 very fast minutes, there's only one thought in your head: Damn it, we want more!»
Gaffa, Vill Vill Vest (2022)

And upon the album’s release, Stavanger Aftenblad gave "Reasons" a score of 6 out of 6 and stated:

«One of this year's best debuts, here you go. (...) Grove is a solid storyteller, and the psychedelic instrumental pieces are warmly welcome. The dance flows freely, while the realities of life are present.»
6/6 – Stavanger Aftenblad (2023)

The music video to track #6, Blur, directed by Elliot Houwing-Endresen, received the award “Best Norwegian Music Video of 2023” at Bergen International Film Festival (BIFF).

Maybe being a confused singer-songwriter, hopeful rock’n’roller and fully grown indie-head wasn’t such a bad thing after all. The Norwegian-American artist has created a sense of nostalgia and hope in his songs, heavily inspired by timeless classics. Someone even crowned him as the Oslo-Lucky Luke. Even though I can’t confirm, nor deny, that the title was coined by his label.
