Variego3 brings together Jorge Variego (clarinets and compositions), Matías Pedrana (bandoneon), and Kris Monson (double bass) in Imaginary Folklore, a project that reimagines the sonic heritage of the Río de la Plata through the lens of jazz and free improvisation. The trio navigates a space where traditional forms intersect with contemporary languages, offering a fluid interplay between composed material and spontaneous invention. Committed to expanding the presence of new Rioplatense music, Variego3 acts as a vehicle for aesthetic experimentation grounded in cultural roots. Their repertoire features original works that explore a folklore that is imagined and reshaped in real time. Active since 2022, the ensemble has completed three U.S. tours, recorded two albums, and recently returned from its first European tour in March 2025.
