Uptown Live Street Festival will take place Sept. 19-21 on Broadway between Lawrence and Leland avenues. It is the first street festival of this caliber in Uptown, according to organizers with the Uptown Chamber of Commerce.
The street festival will include live music with acts including Joywave, DJ Mark Farina, Tortured Soul and Dancing Queen: An ABBA Salute, among others. Baton Show Lounge, the famous Uptown-based drag venue, will also provide entertainment at the festival.

I'm so happy that I got to see Tortured Soul live! I'm a longtime House Music lover and have been a listening fan of this group for years. I just happen to go to the Tortured Soul website for the first time to see if they were touring. I scrolled down to the tour dates section only to find out they were performing later THAT EVENING in Los Angeles..... about 10 minutes from my home. My mouth dropped!!!... What are the chances...I knew I had to go no matter what. The venue was intimate, the audience was diverse, the musicians were talented, and the performance/vibe was simply AMAZING. Hearing all their classic songs I listen to regularly live was better than I expected. Not certain what drove me to visit their website that day.... but so happy I did... it was a such memorable experience for me. Thank-you!!!

Tortured Soul Biography
Tortured Soul is 100% live modern, deep, soulful, house music freed from the DJ Booth. Influenced by the classic songcraft of Prince, Heatwave, and Kool & The Gang, Tortured Soul is a collective of incredible international musicians united under a groove-centered rhythm. Frontman and songwriter, John-Christian Urich, leads the group while simultaneously drumming and singing with effortless mastery. Bass (Ernie Mckone, Bryan Ladd) and keys (Isamu McGregor, Randy Emata, Joel Martin) combine to form the pulsating rhythm and melodic joy that is integral to the Tortured Soul sound. Likened to "The Roots of House Music", Tortured Soul’s sound is reminiscent of Neo-Soul groups like Jamiroquai or Brand New Heavies, while also being influenced by the contemporary freshness of House purveyors like Joey Negro and Louie Vega and Nu Disco artists like Soul Clap and Purple Disco Machine.
