Marcin Masecki Biography
Pianist, composer, arranger, conductor, curator, and educator.
His work spans a wide stylistic spectrum, with his signature being a virtuosic blend of genres and a bold breaking of boundaries between high art and entertainment.
His latest project, "Boleros y más", is dedicated to Latin American music, a genre that holds personal significance due to his childhood spent in Colombia. He also co-leads the Jazz Band Młynarski-Masecki, which performs pre-war Polish jazz in original arrangements. He regularly performs classical repertoire — in solo, chamber, and orchestral formats. A key figure in Warsaw’s musical scene, he curates festivals and projects that bring together musicians from diverse backgrounds. Each year, he leads an improvisation class at the Ensemble Festival in Książ.
As a composer, he premiered a new symphonic poem in May 2023 titled "There Are Three Polonaises in the Goldberg Variations", exploring the connections between Bach’s work and the Polish national dance. His body of work includes three symphonies and one piano concerto.
He also writes for film and theater. He won the Polish Film Award (Orzeł) for his score to "Back to Those Days". He was the arranger, composer, and music consultant for Paweł Pawlikowski’s "Cold War", which won Best Director at Cannes. His previous scores include "O Zwierzętach i Ludziach" by Łukasz Czajka, "Fuck For Forest" by Michał Marczak, and "Obce Niebo" by Dariusz Gajewski.
He collaborates regularly with Polish Radio, Studio Theatre, Bar Studio, and orchestras including MACV and Capella Cracoviensis.
