About this concert
An Americana icon returns for one of the most anticipated winter-time traditions at The Barns. Del McCoury, bluegrass legend and master storyteller, channels his more than 60 years in the industry into five different themed performances. The Del McCoury Band, which includes McCoury’s sons Ronnie and Rob, covers the rich discography and history of the group that’s still flowing with their 2024 album Songs of Love and Life.

It was a real pleasure getting to watch The Del McCoury Band in person and up close. You won’t find a better group of instrumentalists, and Del himself is a living legend whom the good Lord continues to bless. I loved his singing, and his signature harmony style is exactly what’s missing from most other bluegrass bands I hear today. The instrumentalists in this band have impeccable taste. While they can certainly dazzle you with their speed, it’s never done in a way that compromises melody or the traditional bluegrass sound. I wish all bluegrass bands would at least try to model themselves after The Del McCoury Band.

The Del McCoury Band Biography

The Del McCoury Band is a Grammy Award-winning bluegrass band. Originally Del McCoury and the Dixie Pals with Del on guitar and his brother Jerry on bass, the band went through a number of changes until the 1980s when the band solidified its line-up, adding McCoury's sons, Ronnie and Robbie on mandolin and banjo, respectively. In 1988, the "Dixie Pals" name was dropped in favor of the current name.Fiddler Tad Marks and bass player Mike Brantley joined in the early 1990s while the band became a national touring act. In 2004 they were nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album for It's Just the Night, and in 2006 they won that category for The Company We Keep.

The band recorded with Steve Earle on his 1999 album The Mountain.
