Celebrate the darkest time of the year with an exquisite weave of atmospheric, seasonal music and winter words by Dylan Thomas, Laurie Lee, Charles Dickens, and more with Wintertide by Candlelight. We will illuminate the night with a glorious offering of music in the beautiful setting of William Shakespeare’s final resting place, Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon, which will be adorned with stars as part of the Escape Arts Stars of our Community art installation. From Holst’s Midwinter and Corelli’s Christmas Concerto to Vivaldi’s iconic ‘Winter’ from The Four Seasons, interwoven with some of the finest seasonal poetry and prose, narrated by the wonderfully witty Sunny Ormonde (best known as ‘Lilian’ from The Archers) perfectly setting the scene for Christmas. The winter solstice represents a symbolic dividing line; that moment at the year’s end where old gives way to new, despair transforms into hope and darkness becomes light.
