About this concert
A Window for Light: Mikis Theodorakis as I Heard it from My Father is a deeply personal tribute to the legendary composer, seen through the lens of a father’s enduring gift of song, story and identity. At its heart is Theodorakis’ evocative song cycle Lipotaktes, set to poetry by his brother Yiannis, alongside other beloved works. This concert reflects on immigration, resilience, and the oral traditions that carry culture forward—voice to voice, generation to generation. The “window” becomes both a view into the past and an act of remembering, honouring Theodorakis’ spirit of resistance and a father’s enduring love.

When Singers and Creative Entrepreneurs Mel Lathouras and Katerini Manolatos dreamt up their production company Girl from Greece in early 2023, it was to reflect their love and admiration for their Hellenic heritage, their families, friends, community and a growing relationship with Greek music & language.
Mel Lathouras is a Singer, Speaker, Coach, Comedian and Songwriter. With postgraduate qualifications in Jazz, Vocal Pedagogy and education, she is the creator of the online community Fearless Singer – self-empowerment coaching for Singers. She performs regularly around Meanjin, Australia and internationally as a Soul Jazz and alternative Country artist under the name Little Mel.
Kat is a registered music therapist, neurologic music therapist, classically trained vocalist and singer/songwriter. She balances her busy therapy practice with an active performance schedule in Meanjin, interstate, Greece & Europe, singing as part of A Musical Odessey and solo. Kat is a proud Ithacan and Kytherian - performing at Meanjin-based community functions.
