Rube & Rake, an ECMA & MusicNL award winning Folk duo from St. John’s, NL. Their performances engage audiences with a mixture of stories, intricate guitar work, and rich vocal harmonies. Band members Josh Sandu (vocals, guitar, banjo) and Andrew Laite (vocals, guitar) have fused an intimate musical cohesion that comes across in every new song and performance. We would love to have Rube & Rake perform at Char's Landing.
Rube & Rake will be releasing a new full-length album titled Good Times After Bad, set to be released on May 9, 2025. The duo has performed at notable events and venues such as the Newfoundland Folk Festival (NL), Aeolian Hall (London, ON), Lantern Folk Club (Kelowna, BC), Trout Forest Music Festival (ON), and many more. Rube & Rake typically performs as a duo, but occasionally tours in an expanded four piece format with upright bass and fiddle added.

Rube & Rake Biography
Rube & Rake is an award-winning folk music duo based in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Josh Sandu and Andrew Laite, natives of Canada’s West Coast and East Coast respectively, sing about a 21st century Canadian experience, unconfined by a single region or musical style. Their original songs reflect on the nature of home, the passage of time, and the spaces where aspiration and obligation intersect. The Rube & Rake live performance combines musical precision and sensitive vocals with the pair’s approachability and easygoing humour. They have released three full-length albums, most recently Good Time After Bad in 2025.
